Run by award-winning director and acting coach Terry Ross and award-winning screenwriter and producer Lisa Bruhn, the program will include 12 hours of acting training as well as starring in a movie filmed on location in a castle in Umbria in a role written specifically for you! In all, this week promises to be a learning experience you’ll remember for a lifetime.
While in Italy, you’ll stay at the highly acclaimed and magnificently renovated Castello Ducale, which dates back to the early Middle Ages and sits in the middle of an untouched village surrounded by forests, meadows and the waters of the river Chiascio. And, while classes and filming are at the center of this experience, there still will be time for an on-site Italian cooking class, visits to nearby Umbrian towns of Assisi (the home of St. Francis) and Perugia, a winery tour, and the Eurochocolate festival (the largest festival in Europe) This week is sure to fill all your creative, culinary and sightseeing desires!!
Explore our website to learn more about the classes, schedule and surrounding location, and then contact us for more information. We believe that whether you are an accomplished actor or just starting out, our Art of Acting in and Making a Film is perfect for you. All we ask is that you love acting, film and Italy!
When it comes to filmmaking, location is everything, and the setting for this week’s classes and film delivers everything – and more.
First, your stay at the historic Castello Ducale estate will feel like a week spent within a living movie set where you may find yourself recalling the feeling of being a ‘lady or a knight of the court’ in a natural and historical setting and where you cannot help forgetting the daily trials and tribulations of the 21st century. And speaking of history, the owners of the estate are descendants of the family of Napoleon Bonaparte !!
The castle is part of an estate of 500 hectares, where forests and fields offer a variety of paths for horse riding and itineraries for amazing walks. A beautiful garden of 5.000 sqm surrounds the castle, with its rose garden, century old trees and a large swimming pool. The living areas and bedrooms are elegantly furnished in the Napoleanic empire style.
What’s Italy without its legendary cuisine? We’ll also explore the region’s world-renowned culinary culture in meals out – and in an on-site Italian cooking class led by a local expert.
Though it might feel like an island, Castello Ducale is easy driving distance from local towns where we’ll be touring – and filming! Perugia (home to the world famous Eurocholate Festival) and Assisi (birthplace of St. Francis and the world famous Basilica of St. Francis with frescoes attributed to Giotto) are just two of these. We’ll also visit the historic city centre of Montepulciano, home to movie locations for “Under the Tuscan Sun” “The Twilight Sage: New Moon,” and “A Midsummer Nights Dream” – as well as enjoying a tour and luncheon tasting menu at a local winery.
This week will offer 12 hours of film-acting workshops to develop your acting skills and your performance ability in front of the camera. Using techniques Terry Ross has developed over more than 20 years of teaching and coaching film actors, we’ll help you learn and be inspired in a supportive, non-intimidating environment. Sessions will focus on all aspects of a film actor’s work, including:
You’ll be able to put your new skills to work in the short film written specifically for the actors in the program. The film will be shot in a variety of locations in and around Castello Ducale, Perugia, Assisi and other luscious locations. Once our week wraps up, the film will be professionally edited, shared with participants and entered into a variety of international film festivals. Importantly, all participants will receive IMDb credit.
A feast for all your senses.
This week is sure to fill all your creative, culinary, and sightseeing desires.
